DUTIES:
VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) in Reno, NV is seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible Geriatrician to work for the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) service line. The service line offers skilled, rehabilitative, palliative and community based services provided by experienced interdisciplinary teams. The physician will work with these teams and with resident and fellows trainees in our nursing home, home care, clinic and hospital settings. Duties may include a mix of nursing home patient care, resident/fellow supervision, palliative care consults, HBPC (home health) physician duties and geriatrics clinic depending on interest and experience. The preferred candidate will have strong communication skills, pertinent experience, teaching skills, experience in administration/performance improvement, and be board certified or eligible in geriatrics and palliative medicine.
The VASNHCS provides primary and secondary care to a large geographic area that includes 20 counties in Northern Nevada and Northeastern California. Approximately 120,000 veterans reside in this region. The Reno campus operates 60 hospital beds and 60 community living center (nursing home) beds. There are four community based outpatient clinics and one rural health outreach clinic.

Academic affiliations for VASNHCS are the University of Nevada School of Medicine and the East Bay Surgical Program at the University of California, San Francisco. Approximately 45 medical, surgical, psychiatry, geriatrics and palliative medicine residents and fellows rotate annually through VASNHCS.
